In cricket, changing nationalities is not a big deal. Many big players like Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Symonds are some big names who were born in one country and played for some other nation. Now, a case has come where a player who had a chance to play for Australia has opted to play for Pakistan in order to carry his father’s legacy.

Usman Qadir is the son of Pakistan’s legendary spinner, late Abdul Qadir who took more than 350 International wickets across the formats he played. Former spinner’s son once came very close to represent Australia but he left that chance for his father. He played for Australian PM XI against South Africa and also holds the experience of playing in Big Bash League. Usman is one of the five new faces who have been picked in the Pakistan T20I squad for the upcoming tour to Australia.

Late Abdul Qadir’s son will play for Pakistan against Australia

Pakistan spinner feels that he is a custodian of his father’s legacy and will try to perform well with it, “My father re-invented the googly and I feel that I am its custodian, I learned a lot from him and now is the time to deliver, when I left for Australia my father asked me to give it my all to don Pakistan colours and I am proud that I have made it to the national squad,” spinner said as quoted by Geo TV.

When asked about his inclusion for the Australia tour, he said it is a great moment for him and will try to utilize his experience, “I am really happy at my inclusion in the national team. I have good experience of Australian pitches and conditions, I would try my best to live up to the expectations of the head coach and selectors,” he added.

Usman also gave a bit of an insight into his spin bowling. He also expressed that leg-spinner, googly and flipper will be the main weapons that he will bring into use on the Australian wickets. Pakistan cricket team is expected to depart for Australia on 26th October to play three T20Is and two Test matches. This will be the first time that the green flag nation will play a game in the longer format after the ICC Test Championship came into existence.
