India’s attacking batswoman Veda Krishnamurthy recorded her highest score in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) during the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades. Krishnamurthy’s 40 runs off 35 balls at a strike rate of 114.29 including 6 boundaries meant that she was finally getting into the form and attacking cricket she held a reputation for.

Even though she missed out on a half-century and was run out trying to complete the second run, it was a crucial inning for Hobart Hurricanes as they suffered a major batting collapse losing 6 wickets in a matter of 11 runs. When she got out, in the 15th over, the score was 97/4. Hobart were able to bring up a total of 120 runs in the first innings, which they successfully defended in the end.

Dropped on 32

The 25-year-old was dropped on 32 but she was unable to make the most of it as she missed out on her maiden half-century in the T20 league. In the 9 matches she has played, Krishnamurthy has scored 144 runs at an average of 18 including two 30+ scores. Her knock today was extremely crucial considering the circumstances of the match.

She will not be taking further part in WBBL 2017-18 and this was her last match in the season. It is likely that she will be seen in action while playing in Senior T20 League soon for Karnataka before she prepares for India’s tour of South Africa, as reported by inUth. With her contribution today, she was able to help her team win their first game of the tournament after consecutive defeats.

Eventually, Melbourne Renegades could not chase down the total as they lost by a meagre 4 runs and even though skipper Ammy Sattherthwaite stayed till the end, she could not lead her team to the victory considering the side kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

She scored 65 runs from 58 balls including 9 boundaries. Satterthwaite and Krishnamurthy were the leading run scorers for their respective sides. Brooke Hepburn was awarded Man of the Match for her 3/24 in 4 overs.
