Veteran leggie Yasir Shah sets his sights on Pakistan T20I side

Veteran Pakistan leggie Yasir Shah is looking forward to the 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Shah is hoping for a good PSL season this year. He believes that a good outing in the tournament could pretty well serve his purpose of returning back to the Pakistani side in the limited overs cricket. He will be plying his trade for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2018 edition of the popular T20 league.

Yasir Shah has been out of the national side in the shorter formats in the recent times. The prime reason for this has been the future development approach of the Pakistani national selectors. It is a known fact that Yasir is on the wrong side of the 30s. While he is still the preferred spinner in the side for the longest format of the game, the selectors have shown little faith in him when it comes to the shorter formats.

Young leggie Shadab Khan has cemented his place in the national side in the ODIs and T20Is. Furthermore, there are other bowlers like Imad Wasim who have tasted decent success in the limited overs. With the younger lot doing well, Yasir Shah seems to be fading away.

Also, in the Big Bash League this year, Shadab Khan was in the starting eleven for the Brisbane Heat side. When Shadab joined the national side midway through the season, Yasir got his chances as the replacement player. Now, the veteran is planning to stage a comeback in grand style.

McCullum giving the big boost

Among the various factors for the good atmosphere at the Qalandars camp, Yasir Shah cited that the energy skipper Brendon McCullum brings to the table is immense. He mentioned that McCullum is showing great faith in him and has also offered him to open the bowling in the tournament this year.“Yes the captain is such a motivational factor in our team. He always motivates players and sometimes gives him an over to open the bowling,” he quoted as per the quotes in Geo.tv.
