Babar Azam is the best batter in the world at the moment: Daniel Vettori
"Right now, Babar Azam is the most in-form batter on the back of his series against Australia," Vettori said.
Veteran New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori has hailed Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as the best batter in the world right now. To note, Babar is currently ranked number one in International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ODI and T20I rankings. In the longest format, the right-handed batter is ranked fifth behind Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root.
It may be noted that Babar was in red hot form during Pakistan’s last series against visitors Australia. Babar was the second highest run-getter in the ODI series behind Imam-ul-Haq. Babar scored 276 runs at an outstanding average of 138 in the three matches. Similarly, he was the top run-getter in the one-off T20I as he amassed 66 runs in the game.

During a recent Question and Answers session, Vettori emphasized the fact that Babar is the most in-form batter at the moment with his excellent batting antics during the recently conducted Australia tour of Pakistan. However, it may be noted that the homes-side lost both the Test and T20I series during that tour.
“The different formats of the game make it tough to say overall, but right now, Babar Azam is the most in-form batter on the back of his series against Australia,” Vettori told ESPNcricinfo.
Talking about Babar numbers in the international arena, the right-handed batter has so far represented Pakistan in 40 Tests, 86 ODIs, and 74 T20Is and has amassed a total of 9798 at an excellent average of almost 49. The 27-year-old has already stroked 65 fifties and 23 hundred across all three formats. Babar has never crossed the 200-run mark so far, but his highest score is 196.
It may also be noted that Babar is the first captain from Pakistan to beat India in a World Cup match. The Men in Green achieved that milestone after beating the Men in Blue during the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Skipper Babar and Mohammad Rizwan chased down the target without any fuss as India was handed a 10-wicket defeat in the match.
