VHT double centurion Karn Veer Kaushal wants to meet MS Dhoni and thank him

Karn recently broke Ajinkya Rahane's record for the highest individual score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Uttarakhand opening batsman Karn Veer Kaushal, who recently made it to the record books after his magnificent innings against Sikkim in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game, cherishes it as one of the greatest moments in his life. He smacked a remarkable 202 to enter the history books for the highest individual score in the history of the tournament.

The right-handed batsman broke a 11-year-old record held by Ajinkya Rahane, who previously scored 187 against Maharashtra in Pune in 2007. This was a special moment for the youngster who wishes to meet Rahane one fine day and talk about his achievement and would definitely want to take some batting tips from the Indian Test vice-captain.

Wasn’t aware of the feat

Karn mentioned that he was unaware of the record. It was only after he came back to the pavilion that he was informed of this spectacular feat by the coaches and teammates. The first double centurion in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kaushal took only 135 balls to reach to the magical figure with 18 boundaries and 9 gigantic sixes on his day.

“I am really happy to break Ajinkya Rahane’s record. He is a legend of the game,” Kaushal told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview. “If I meet Rahane someday, I will tell him about this record and will present him the scoresheet. He (Ajinkya Rahane) is a great batsman. I would love to take some cricketing tips from him,” the youngster said.

He stitched an opening partnership of 296 runs alongside Vineet Saxena, to also record for the highest opening stand in the history of the List A tournament. The duo went past the record partnership of Chopra-Dhawan, who previously registered an unbeaten stand of 277 runs against Punjab in 2007-08.

MS Dhoni fan

Kaushal has higher aspirations as he wants to emulate one of the greatest finishers of all-time. He is a big MS Dhoni fan and admires his passion and respect towards his game. The youngster wants to follow his footsteps, not only in terms of his batting but also the way he handles pressure and finishes games for India.

His wishlist also features a desire to meet the great man some day and thank him for the sheer inspiration that has helped Karn live his dream to play cricket. “Indian cricket is lucky to have a cricketer like him. I would like to meet him someday and thank him for motivating me,” Kaushal was quoted as saying by TOI.
