Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19: Mohammed Siraj tries to unsettle Prithvi Shaw by sledging him
Shaw was eventually dismissed for 61 off 44 deliveries.
The ongoing semi-final fixture of the Vijay Hazare Trophy between Mumbai and Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium is interestingly poised. Hyderabad posted a total of 246 runs after opting to bat first despite being reduced to 123/6 in the 35th over. However, they needed to pick early wickets of the power-packed Mumbai side to stay in the game. In the process, the emotions got better of Mohammed Siraj as he tried to unsettle Prithvi Shaw by sledging him.
Mumbai’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Prithvi, started off well chasing the tricky total. The latter especially attacked the bowlers in the power play to continue his blazing form. Hyderabad skipper Ambati Rayudu then introduced Siraj into the attack to break the opening partnership.
Siraj bowled with pace and trouble Shaw by bowling well-directed bouncers. The way he was batting, the 18-year-old wonder kid decided to take on the short ball twice in an over and both the times, top-edged the ball towards the fine leg fielder. However, much to the frustration of the bowler, the same fielder Ravi Kiran shelled the catch on both the occasions.
Infuriated Siraj sledges Shaw
Prithvi Shaw was benefitted with the drop catches as he continued to play his shots. Meanwhile, Siraj wasn’t pleased with the fielding effort at all and tried to have a go at Shaw. After missing a couple of deliveries off his bowling, Siraj exchanged some pleasantries with the batsman as Shaw also responded. The banter didn’t go on for long and even the umpires didn’t intervene but there was some heat in the middle following the drop catches which made things interesting.
However, Shaw couldn’t make Hyderabad pay as Mehdi Hasan got one to keep low and castled him for a well-made 61 off just 44 deliveries with eight fours and a couple of sixes. His knock has kept Mumbai ahead in the chase and are looking comfortable to win the game.
