Some interesting clashes took place in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19 on Friday and whilst a few big sides registered important wins, the others succumbed. Karnataka and Vidarbha lost two games in two days whilst Tripura managed to defeat a much stronger side in Jammu Kashmir in a comprehensive manner.

Jammu Kashmir were bowled out for a disappointing haul of 79 batting first against Tripura. Harmeet Singh registered figures of 5/10 and rode through the opponents’ middle order. Tripura found it a tad difficult to get to the winning mark, but they did get there eventually and won the game by 4 wickets.

Mumbai absolutely annihilated former champions Karnataka in Bangalore. Batting first, Mumbai posted a herculean total of 362, propelled by skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s 148 and Shreyas Iyer’s 110. Karnataka were never in the game and their batsmen could only contribute in bits and pieces, which saw Mumbai emerge victorious by 88 runs.

Punjab thrash defending Ranji champions

Vidarbha had another horrendous day in the tournament as they registered their second successive defeat. Punjab scored 278 runs in their 50 overs riding on a fantastic knock from Gurkeerat Mann. The defending Ranji Champions just fell apart with the bat and got bowled out for 137, handing a humongous 141-run win for Punjab.

In a rain-marred game at the Feroz Shah Kotla, hosts Delhi managed to defeat Hyderabad by 6 wickets. In reply to Hyderabad’s 205, Delhi lost some early wickets but picked up the pace later. Rain gods’ interruption saw the target getting revised to 178, which they chased down easily in 30.4 overs.

Tamil Nadu are off and running in their bid to win the title. Jagadeesan’s 133, Baba Indrajith’s 76 and Abhinav Mukund’s 69 helped them post a daunting 315 in their 50 overs against Services. Varun Chakravarthi struck hard with the ball as his five-fer ensured the South Indian side won the game by 83 runs.
