Vinay Kumar infuriated after Cheteshwar Pujara was wrongly given not-out
The batsman went through a similar incident even in the first innings.
Cheteshwar Pujara was the Player of the Match in India’s four-match Test series against Australia. He played over 1000 balls and was the leading run-scorer in the series over even Virat Kohli, the Indian captain. Thereafter, the cricketing fraternity heaped praises on the experienced batsman for the stupendous knocks. His top score of 193 came in the last match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
After the red-ball fixtures Down Under, he came back to play the Ranji Trophy where he took the field in the second Quarter Final match for Saurashtra in the match against Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow. The 31-year-old failed in the first innings as he could only manage 11 runs. Nevertheless, the veteran scored 67 not out in the second innings and helped his team track down 372 runs with six wickets in hand.
Rare controversies for Pujara
Saurashtra are currently playing the semi-final match against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Amidst some riveting cricket, he has also been a part of a couple of controversies. In the first innings, he knicked the leather but didn’t walk off. Nonetheless, he got out to Abhimanyu Mithun after scoring 45 runs from 99 balls with the help of three scorching boundaries and a six.
Even in the second innings, he got himself tangled in an unwanted situation. The incident occurred when he was batting on 34 from 70 balls with Saurashtra’s score on 68 for the loss of three wickets. Vinay Kumar bowled a full-length delivery and Pujara made a half push-forward. But the ball shaped away and found Pujara’s outside edge into the gloves of Srinivas Sharath.
The on-field umpire remained unmoved as Kumar kept appealing with all his might. The wicketkeeper also appealed immediately. Vinay Kumar literally pleaded for the umpire to give the decision in his favour, but he had to return empty-handed. Going deep into the match, the decision could prove costly as Pujara is arguably one of Saurashtra’s gun batsmen.
