Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was the latest in the list of people who were quite pleased to see Prithvi Shaw play with such ease in his debut Test match for India. Shaw, who scored a magnificent century on his debut, earned appreciation from some of the greats of the game and even Kambli was quick to appreciate the performance of the youngster.

It was a special moment in the history of Indian cricket as the 18-year old became the youngest Indian player to score a century on debut. He took just 99 balls to reach to his maiden Test ton and looked at sheer comforts during the entire course of his masterful innings.

Kambli lauds the youngster

Kambli, who himself holds a special mention in the history of Mumbai cricket, was pleased to see a youngster emerge as another batting sensation from the similar background. Prithvi’s career so far has seen him gain so much fame in such a short duration. His runs in the domestic circuit and the feats achieved at the junior level, often tempt cricket followers to compare him with some of the legends that Mumbai cricket has produced in the years gone by.

Kambli took to Twitter to express his joy after seeing the elegant batsman play as if he had been playing for years at the highest level. He congratulated Shaw on his maiden Test hundred and would wish for him to continue playing the same way in the years to follow.

He tweeted, “Take a bow son! The ease with which you played in your 1st innings made me feel like you have been playing for the Indian team for years. Congratulations on your maiden hundred, @PrithviShaw. #INDvWI

Prithvi’s innings of 134 runs gave a glimpse of what can be expected of the little man in the future tough tours. He played a crucial role as India managed a score of 364 for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of day’s play. Skipper Virat Kohli (72*) and Rishabh Pant (17*) remained unbeaten after the loss of Rahane (41) late in the day.
