The Indian skipper might land in the new controversy as he was seen chewing gum during the National Anthem on Thursday. The first Test between India and Sri Lanka started late due to the persistent rains and finally, the play started in the second session after lunch. However, both the teams would hope now that the rain stays away and allows some play to happen on the first day of the series.
Recently, Kohli was in the spotlight for using the walkie-talkie while sitting in the dugout during the first T20 International against New Zealand in Delhi. He was also seen communicating with someone with the device which was against the rules laid by ICC. Though the match referee later cleared the air by stating that he had sought permission prior to the game to use the device in order to communicate with the dressing room.
In the video footage which is going viral on social media currently, Virat Kohli could be seen chewing gum while the Indian national anthem was played. There is a possibility that he might have to face the wrath of the people who are waiting for such things to happen. Hopefully, for him and the team, the controversy stays away and they should be able to concentrate on the game. Parvez Rasool had also faced a widespread criticism for the similar actions when he made his international debut earlier this year against England.

India off to a poor start
India, after being invited to bat first on a green wicket at Eden Gardens, got off to a worst possible start as KL Rahul was dismissed off the first ball of the match. Suranga Lakmal bowled a peach of a delivery which was literally unplayable and caught the batsman by surprise. Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan then somehow tried to weather the bowling but the latter could not control himself and tried to play an expansive drive and was castled. India were reduced to 17/2 in the ninth over when the rain came back again and play stopped.
