Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been in a rampaging form in the recent times. Irrespective of which format he plays in, the dynamic batsman has managed to score runs at will. While his on the field heroics are known to all and are totally expected, the off the field work of the Indian skipper does not go unnoticed either. Kohli has been very active in doing philanthropy services and also in extending his support for the social cause.
Recently, when the Indian team arrived in Trivandrum, Virat Kohli took some time off from his playing schedule to join the anti-drug campaign in the state of Kerala. The drug abuse has been on the rise in many parts of the country. The youth, who are seen as the building blocks of the nation, are falling prey to this unscrupulous disease.
Kerala CM, State DGP also attend the event
Kohli attended an event where he urged over thousands of school children to stay away from drugs and any type of susbtance abuse. The campaign, that was launched in Kerala, has been very popular with the slogan, “Yes to Cricket, No to Drugs”. The Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, was also present at the event which took place at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium.
It was a packed house for the event and the series decider between India and New Zealand, which will be played in the city, is also expected to be a sold out affair. Among the other big names that were present at the event, the names of the state DGP Loknath Behara, Dinesh Karthik, and Axar Patel stand as the prominent ones. All these gentlemen, along with Virat Kohli, took the anti-drugs pledge.
The players and the Kerala CM were seen releasing pink colored balloons at the event. The state police sensed the nerve of the youth and realised that the game of cricket could be the ideal way to spread this message among the youth and hence invited the cricketers on the occasion.
