Virat Kohli, undoubtedly, is one of the best cricketers in the World. He is currently the captain of the Indian cricket team and more often than not leads from the front. The World is at his feet and he deserves all the accolades coming his way as his name is now featured in the Forbes’ compilation of highest-paid athletes. However, he is only Indian sportsperson on the list alongside some of the huge personalities.
He was paid a whopping amount of Rs 17 Crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after retaining him earlier this year. Even he was awarded the new A+ Grade by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the new contract lists which assures an annual retainer of more than $ 1 Million.
What is the rank of Kohli?
Virat Kohli is ranked 83 in the list of 100 highest paid athletes with a total pay of $24 Million among which he earns almost $ 20 Million through endorsements itself. If the players with the highest endorsements are shortlisted, then the 29-year-old features at the 15th position. “Yet like the Indian cricket mega-stars who have come before him, Kohli’s big payday comes off the pitch,” the statement released by Forbes read.
However, the highest paid sportsperson in the World is the Boxing Champion Floyd Mayweather with a whopping pay of $ 285 Million. Moreover, his earnings of close to $ 275 Million are through the salary or his winnings and only $ 10 Million is via endorsements. Mayweather is followed by two of the greatest football players of this generation, Lionel Messi ($ 111 Million) and Cristiano Ronaldo ($ 108 Million). Both of them one of the most sought players in the Football leagues around the World and have a huge fan following.
Interestingly, this time around, 40 NBA players have made it to the list breaking the previous record of 32. Unfortunately, no other Indian athlete belongs to this list.
