Virat Kohli has a piece of advice for Australian batsmen to counter English bowlers during the Ashes
He explained the importance of being patient in red-ball cricket.
After defeating Australia 2-1 on their soil, and winning their first Test series Down Under in 71 years, Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave a few inputs to the Australian team for the upcoming Ashes series in England, starting August 1 at Edgbaston. In the Test series against India, the hosts faced to counter India’s pace bowling attack. Not a single century was scored by any Australian batsman.
In the wake of Australia’s poor show, Kohli gave them some key pointers to tackle bowlers like James Anderson and Stuart Broad in swinging conditions in England. It can be recalled that during India’s tour of England last year, Kohli was the only Indian batsman who was able to tackle the English bowlers and was also declared the man of the series.
“If you go out there with an ego, you might as well not go at all. Because that Dukes ball, it buries egos pretty quickly. You have to curb yourself down and do the hard yards. Grind it out the whole day … you have to be patient as a batsman,” Kohli said, as per quotes on IndiaTV.
Patience is the key in Test cricket
He also explained the importance of being patient in red-ball cricket, saying that the more you hurry against the number of balls, the more will be the casualties. “There’s lot of time in Test cricket. But sometimes we are so nervous as batsmen, we don’t quite realise it. You just want to get away quickly but in England, you’re not allowed to do that. So, you have to buy your time. And you have to earn the right to score runs eventually. But you have to get into a position where you should not even look at the scoreboard to see the number of balls,” the Indian skipper added.
The Australian team will be boosted with the return of David Warner and Steve Smith as their ban comes to an end in March this year and will look to retain the Ashes urn.
