Virat Kohli is always up for a battle, he will find that switch: Shane Watson
Virat Kohli has scored only 119 runs in IPL 2022 so far.
Virat Kohli, former India, and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper is the talk of the town because of his current form in the IPL 2022. One of the most successful players in Indian cricket is going through a rough patch in his career for quite some time now, and his poor form continues even in the IPL this season.
The 33-year-old gave up on his national captaincy and the RCB captaincy last year in order to focus on his batting, but he has not succeeded in regaining his mojo back. He has been poorly dismissed in the past few games of the IPL, and the two recent games account for back-to-back golden ducks. He has not been able to work his magic with the bat, and it has been more than 100 games, across all formats, that the prolific player has gone without a century.
Former Australian cricketer and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has shared his opinion on Kohli’s form in the game. Watson has played alongside Virat in IPL when he represented RCB for two seasons between 2016 and 2017. He said that Virat’s energy has lowered, from what he noticed at the DC vs RCB clash. While speaking on The Grade Cricketer’s Podcast, he said:
“In the last game, where Delhi Capitals played against them, there was something tiny bit different with Virat. Because I have seen him before, I have played against him and with him for a couple of years at RCB. It looked like his energy was a little bit different, a little bit off. The thing with Virat is that he is always so amped every time he goes out to bat, every time he is in the field. It is superhuman what he has been able to do so far and sustained for such a long period of time. He’s a freak of nature with the intensities he’s able to continue to keep up in his game.”
Watson feels Virat Kohli giving up the captaincy has created a deep impact on his game
The former RCB player is of the opinion that Kohli stepping down from the captaincy in an unusual manner has affected his game in many ways as he stated that the captaincy meant a lot for Kohli He feels that the former skipper has not been able to perform with the passion that he previously used to display.
“Whatever went on there would have been a big call for him to step down as captain for India. So, at some stage, it is going to take a toll in a little way. The energy is a tiny bit off but if he gets into a battle on the field, he’ll find that energy it straight away because that’s the type of batsman he is and the type of person he is. He’s always up for a battle. He will find that switch, he’ll find it,” Watson added.
