Virat Kohli is going to be even more dangerous if he strikes form: Wasim Jaffer
'Once he is back in form, other teams have to watch out,' said Jaffer.
Virat Kohli, without a doubt, is one of the finest cricketers to have graced the game. His drive and his passion to play more and more games is what makes him stand out of the lot. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer is one among the many others who look forward to Kohli making a strong comeback and he believes that Kohli is going to be more dangerous when he walks into the Asia Cup.
While the world has been waiting for him to bag his 71st international century, the ace batter achieved a unique kind of a hundred in the Asia Cup contest against Pakistan as he appeared in his 100th T20I game. After Ross Taylor, Kohli is the second player in the history of cricket to appear in 100 games across all formats. Notably, he is the first Indian player to have achieved the feat.
Speaking to BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker, Jaffer reckoned Virat Kohli did the right thing by taking a break from the game, which will now help him, as he said:
“In the past one-and-a-half or two years, his performances have not been the same. But he has been in top form for such a long time. And his recent interview (with Star Sports) makes so much sense. People were criticizing him and recommending he take a break, but it’s not that easy because you’ve got a commitment. But then he realized that a break was required.”
He is somebody who knows his game inside out: Jaffer
Kohli missed out on the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe after concluding the tour of England in July. Even then, Kohli was unable to play a worthy knock and ended up with bare minimum runs. Be it the Test match, the ODIs, or the T20Is, Kohli struggled with the bat. But Jaffer feels once he regains form, he’ll be unstoppable.
“Now that he is back, he’s going to be even more dangerous if he strikes form. Because Virat Kohli is a player who, once regains his form, will not just continue it for a couple of series, or six months or a year. It will go on for a very long time and he is somebody who knows his game inside out given the amount of time he has spent playing the sport. Once he is back in form, other teams have to watch out,” Jaffer added.
