Sheldon Cottrell’s cricketing journey has significantly notched up post his performance in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The left-arm speedster grabbed eyeballs in the showpiece event after emerging as the highest wicket-taker for his national side. Combining his pace with bounce in English conditions, Cottrell popped up as one of the bowlers to watch in the mega-event.
Cottrell’s impressive stint in the World Cup proved fruitful as he emerged as one of the costliest players in IPL 2020 auction. The Jamaican, known for his unique ‘salute’ celebration, was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping sum of INR 8.5 crore.

When asked to name the best white-ball batsman at the moment, Cottrell picked current India skipper Virat Kohli. According to him, Kohli is just a few inches above his compatriot Rohit Sharma.

“Virat Kohli is the best white-ball batsman at the moment. I will go with Virat Kohli as he just gets edge over Rohit Sharma,” Cottrell told Host Adarsh Raman during Instagram Live with CricTracker.
Furthermore, Cottrell also revealed the toughest batsman he has bowled at so far in his career. The speedster dished out the name of newly-appointed KXIP captain KL Rahul. He even clarified that his answer was not influenced by Rahul being the skipper of KXIP.
“KL Rahul is the toughest batsman I’ve bowled to thus far. It’s not like he’s KXIP captain, but he’s really the toughest I’ve bowled to in my career,” revealed Cottrell.
The West Indies international last donned the national jersey in their tour against Sri Lanka. In three ODIs and two T20Is against the island nation, Cottrell scalped five and two wickets respectively. Talking about his international career, Cottrell has represented the Men in Maroon in 2 Tests, 35 ODIs and 27 T20Is where he has scalped 2, 49, and 36 wickets respectively.
