The latest ICC Test rankings for the batsmen and bowlers have seen seismic changes after India’s huge 10-wicket loss to New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The visitors just couldn’t handle the movement and swing produced by the Kiwi pacers and could only manage 165 and 191 runs on the board in their two innings.
Meanwhile, the Indian bowlers and some insipid captaincy from Virat Kohli let the home team off the hook as the last three wickets added more than 120 runs to take the team to 348. This was enough for them to earn a huge win and hand India their first loss in the ICC World Test Championship. This also resulted in Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah to drop out of the top 10 ICC Test bowling rankings, as he managed just one wicket in the Wellington match.
Virat Kohli loses top spot in batting rankings to Steve Smith
Apart from Bumrah, a big change was Indian captain Virat Kohli losing his no.1 spot in the ICC Test batting rankings after scoring 2 and 19 runs in the two innings at Basin Reserve. Kohli has not scored a century in international cricket in the last 20 innings and that has affected his ranking points a lot. Kohli now has 906 points at the second spot, while Steve Smith climbed to the top spot with 911 points to his name.
In the top 10 bowling rankings, the only Indian bowler is Ravichandran Ashwin, who is at 9th spot with 765 points to his name. Jasprit Bumrah is at the no.11 spot. Ashwin is also at no.5 spot in Test all-rounder’s rankings, with Ravindra Jadeja at no.3 spot. However, there is good news for the Indian fans when it comes to Test batting rankings, which was updated recently.
Opener Mayank Agarwal has made his presence in the top 10 of the Test batting rankings with 727 points to his name. This happened due to his brilliant and fighting half-century in India’s second innings against New Zealand. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are the other Indian batsmen in the top 10 rankings at no.8 and no.9 spot respectively.
