Virat Kohli regaining form will make things easier for skipper Rohit Sharma: Ajit Agarkar
Virat Kohli hasn’t slammed an international century since November 2019.
Virat Kohli’s ‘lean patch’ is a matter of concern for Team India, reckons former pacer Ajit Agarkar. The talismanic batter hasn’t slammed an international century since November 2019 and the cricket world is eagerly waiting for this drought to get over. Although the 33-year-old has chipped in with crucial knocks every now and then, he has been far away from his best.
The talismanic batter has now stepped down as India’s captain across formats. With the leadership burden not being on his shoulders anymore, it remains to be seen whether Kohli the batter can unleash his A-game out or not. Speaking on the matter, Agarkar said it will be good for the team if the veteran batter gets back in form sooner than later.
Virat Kohli would be a key factor going forward: Ajit Agarkar
“At the end of the day you’re only successful as successful your team is and if you don’t win, it eventually doesn’t matter how great a player you are out on the field, it’s not enjoyable playing in the team,” Agarkar said on Star Sports’ show ‘Game Plan’.
“We talk about different combinations before – Virat Kohli would be a key factor because of the kind of player that he is but at the moment he isn’t at his best, which is a fact and the quicker he discovers his form it’s going to be that much easier for Rohit Sharma to then manage that thing because of what he can do on his own, Virat Kohli,” he added.
Kohli’s next assignment would be the home series against West Indies, which gets underway on February 6. Three ODIs will be followed by as many T20Is and the veteran batter would like to make his bat talk. Agarkar also hopes the same. “Virat Kohli’s form is a concern, but we all know what a player he is. So, hopefully, he discovers his form sooner rather than later,” he added.
Meanwhile, rumours of rift between Kohli and Rohit have been doing rounds since a while. Although Kohli has cleared the air time and again, a section of fans and experts believe there’s certain tiff between the two. The upcoming series would mark Kohli’s first assignment under skipper Rohit. Hence, many eyes would be on the duo’s performance.
