Virat Kohli rubbishes reports of him being rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka
Indian skipper does not feel the need to be rested
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli rubbed off all the talks about him not participating in the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. It was reported by various media channels that the skipper will be provided rest, considering the fact that his workload has gone way too high in the last couple of seasons.
India played 43 international matches over the last one year and Virat Kohli turned out in 42 of those. Often we have heard the term being’drained’ or ‘worn out’, but the skipper is in no mood to cool off his heels right now.
Kohli rubbishes reports
“Who said I am not playing? I don’t know where this came from, but I have no problems in playing,” Kohli’s forthright answer to a query regarding team selection made it clear as to where he stood on the issue.
The Indian team will be selected on August 13. “We (team management and selectors) are going to sit down on selection soon and we certainly have plans in mind and combinations that we want to speak about. So as captain, I am definitely in the thick of things and knowing what to speak to the committee about,” he added. It was also learned that the selectors will decide on the squad through a conference call.
There is a possibility that senior spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be rested along with pacer Mohammed Shami. Jadeja and Ashwin bowled over 108 overs each during the ongoing Test series and it will take some beating to continue without a break.
Jadeja was adjudged the man of the match in the last Test match for his all-round performance. He scored a 70 with the bat and picked up seven wickets with the red leather. He will miss out on the final Test, as he has been suspended for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct.
