Virat Kohli set to miss the T20I series against Ireland
The two-match T20I series will begin on June 27.
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is all set to feature for Surrey in his maiden County stint soon after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He will play a total of 6 matches in the month of June in England which also includes three matches in the limited overs format. In the process, Kohli will miss the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan. However, he is also set to miss the two-match T20 International series against Ireland which is scheduled to be held in the last week of June.
There is a possibility that India might field the second string Test side for the Test against Afghanistan as they are concentrating more on the upcoming England tour. The key members of the team are likely to travel with India A side under the coaching of Rahul Dravid to the UK. Ireland might face a similar Indian side which won the Nidahas Trophy in March.
Will Kohli play England T20Is?
According to the reports in Times Now, Virat Kohli will not take any part in the series against Ireland as he will be playing for Surrey at the same time. His last game of the County season against Yorkshire will start on June 25 as the Ireland T20Is will commence only two days later. India and Ireland are set to lock horns on June 27 and 29 before the three-match T20I series against England begins on July 1.
Interestingly, the players picked in the India A squad will not play in the three-match T20I series against England. Though Kohli will return to the highest level of cricket after his County stint and lead the side in the shortest format of the game. The selectors will pick the teams for their recent upcoming assignments on May 8 and it will be interesting to see the way teams will stack up.
