Virat Kohli the most searched sportspersons on Google
The mega search engine Google released its list of the top 10 most searched sportspersons in 2015 in which six Indian athletes find a place. Indian Test captain Virat Kohli tops this list ahead of Barcelona striker Lionel Messi being the most searched athlete.
This year has been a commendable one for Kohli after being a dependable batsman for the squad; he also led India to a historic 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and recently the won the home series 3-0 against South Africa.
Sachin Tendulkar, the maestro of the game wasn’t far behind and was placed at the third spot. He might have retired a couple of years back, but his legacy has continued and after the inception of the All-Stars T20 League, his search listings have gone further up. Both Sachin and Kohli were trending in Twitter after the latter became a part-owner of an IPTL team.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the limited overs skipper for India was at 4th and southpaw Yuvraj Singh was at 9th. Dhoni had an on and off year as a captain but has made the headlines when the new Pune IPL franchise bought him for 12.5Cr in the first IPL draft for the next season.
Yuvraj might not have got much chance to don the national colours but has covered it up with clinical performances in domestic cricket with both the bat and ball. Also, the southpaw was in the news when he broke the hearts of his female fans getting engaged to model-turned-actor Hazel Keech.
Rohit Sharma also featured in the most searched list at the 8th position. He had an average year on the field, but his marriage recently saw people like the Ambanis, Sachin Tendulkar along with all the big names from cricket and entertainment industry mark their presence.
The only other Indian non-cricketer to be on this list is Tennis ace Sania Mirza.
