Virat Kohli to get Rugby legend’s suite for quarantining in Sydney
Kohli would be leaving Australia after India's Day-Night Test in Adelaide.
Following a gruelling campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for over two months, Team India’s cricketers are busy gearing up for their away matches against Australia. The players, including skipper Virat Kohli, already landed in Sydney on Thursday, November 12 where they will be undergoing a training-cum-quarantine period for 14 days on the outskirts of the city.
Along with the Aussies stars like Steve Smith, Pat Cummins and David Warner, the Indian players arrived late in the afternoon and were taken to the Sydney Olympic Park. Earlier, the New South Wales government allowed the Indian cricketers to train while quarantining. The Blacktown International Sports Park has been converted into a bio-secure venue for training purposes.
Virat Kohli to get special treatment
During this while, as per reports in The Telegraph, Kohli is set for some special treatment. The Indian team would be staying at the Pullman Hotel for the next couple of weeks. The hotel was also a base for the popular rugby side New South Wales Blues, who have moved to another hotel. Kohli will be provided with a special penthouse suite where Aussie legend Brad Fitter generally stays.
Kohli won’t be a part of the entire tour as he would be leaving Australia after the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval, starting December 17. After the ODIs and T20Is, the 32-year-old won’t be a part of the three Tests in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in order to be with his wife Anushka Sharma, who’s due to give birth to their first child in the month of January.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) granted him permission to go on paternity leave. Before the start of the 2020 IPL, Kohli spilled the beans on his wife’s pregnancy. Thereafter, he headed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for his IPL journey with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who bowed out of the tournament after a defeat in the Eliminator.
As far as India’s tour of Australia is concerned, it’s scheduled to start on Friday, November 27 with the opening ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Between the international games, India will also take part in two warm-up matches against Australia A.
