Virat Kohli on the verge of yet another milestone in Tests

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is shattering records in the longest format of the game with his batting and is set to join the greats in the third Test against Sri Lanka. The talented cricketer is just 25 runs away from becoming the 11th player from the country to reach 5000 runs in Tests. However, he would look to make the most of his final outing in whites before the all-important South Africa tour commences in January.

Kohli smashed a lot of records during his special knock of 213 in the second Test of the match series against the island nation last week. He equalled the West Indian great Brian Lara to score most double centuries while leading the team. He also surpassed Don Bradman when it came to the conversion rate of the 50s into 100s as the leader of the pack and is quickly going up the ladder in the traditional format of the game.

Skipper looking forward to overseas tours

Virat Kohli has so far scored 4975 runs in 62 Test matches at an amazing average of 51.82 to go with 14 half-centuries and 19 hundreds. Though he is close to the milestone, he realises that the real test of the team lies during the overseas tours and is preparing for the challenges ahead. He is ready to put himself out of his comfort zone and wants to do well in tough conditions. India played on the tough pitches in Eden Gardens where the wicket was totally green and in Nagpur, it was slow as he thrived in both the games.

The third and final Test match of the series will be a special homecoming for him and would love to end the home season on a high. There is also a possibility that the team would request the same pitch they came across in Kolkata in the first Test. The 29-year-old has been rested for the ODI series and is yet to take a call on his availability for the T20I series. But Kohli will surely join the greats by scoring many more than 25 runs required to reach 5000 runs in the Test format.
