Virat Kohli wants India to carry momentum after Bangladesh trouncing
Kohli became India's maiden Test centurion in Day-Night Tests.
Ever since the ICC World Test Championship got underway, there has been no stopping Team India. Virat Kohli and Co are sitting pretty on top of the table with 360 points from seven victories and are a country mile away from the rest. India have now won seven Tests in a row, five of which have come at home. Their recent victory by 2-0 came against a rather depleted Bangladesh team.
The Tigers didn’t have the services of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal and it turned out to be a walk in the park for India. After beating the Tigers at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Virat’s men carried forward their momentum in the second Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. All the focus was on the game as both India and Bangladesh were yet to take part in a Day-Night Test.
India decimate Tigers in Kolkata
The match turned out to be a rather drab affair and it took a bit more than a couple of days to end. The hosts won by a mammoth margin of an innings and 46 runs. After losing the toss, most of the things went in their favour. To start with, the Indian pace trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma ripped the Tigers out for 106 in a bit over the 30-over mark.
Thereafter, Virat’s century put India on the driver’s seat. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, both of whom had no prior experience of playing with the pink ball, turned up with half-centuries. In the second innings, Bangladesh were bowled out for 195. Ishant Sharma picked up nine wickets in the game and hence became both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
Meanwhile, despite the victory, Kohli doesn’t wish for complacency to sneak in. The Delhi-born, who made amends after the two-ball duck in Indore, lauded his team for the superlative slow, but also asked them to carry over the momentum in the Test Championship.
He uploaded a few pictures where he along with his Indian teammates were seen celebrating. Virat captioned the photos and wrote, “Kolkata you have been amazing. Terrific display by the lads. Let’s keep the momentum going.”
