Virat Kohli will be back in form for the good of cricket: Salman Butt
People think that Kohli isn’t in form because he got into the habit of scoring centuries, said Butt.
Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt believes Virat Kohli has established such high standards for himself that people tend to overlook the half-century that he scores. Kohli’s form has declined enormously over the past few months as he has been struggling to put up a noticeable and worthy knock with the bat.
His outing at the IPL this season was also mediocre, as he was dismissed for a golden duck three times in the entire tournament, and managed to score only two half-centuries throughout the 16 games that he played while representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has been with the franchise since the inception of IPL, and this was one of the forgettable seasons for him.
“The ones who understand the game know that Kohli is an institution in himself. The way he has performed and carved himself into a role model as an athlete, as a batter, and as a captain, he has an exemplary stature,” Butt said on his official YouTube channel.
“Virat has set such high standards for himself that fifties in eight of his last 14 matches went unnoticed. People think that he isn’t in form because he got into the habit of scoring centuries. He will be back in form for the good of cricket,” he added.
Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy roles with India and decided to leave the RCB captaincy after leading the team for several years. He took the decision in order to focus on his form and his game, and get back into shape as early as possible. The upcoming tour of England will be very much useful for him to seize the opportunity.
The top-class players need to stay in form as they are the supermodels: Salman Butt
Butt is of the opinion that it is critical for the world’s top players to keep in shape and remain consistent in their careers. He believes that the young and budding cricketers consider the senior pros as their role models, and thus it becomes a responsibility to keep up with their game.
“The top-class players, (Joe) Root, Kohli, Babar (Azam), (Kane) Williamson need to stay in form as they are the supermodels. The aspiring cricketers look up to them,” Butt further added.
