'Virat Kohli will have to measure it session by session' - Kapil Dev offers some advice to the Indian skipper ahead of England tour

Virat Kohli and the Indian side will travel to England for a grueling season of Test match cricket. First up, the Indian side will take on New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) that will begin on 18th June 2021. After that, the Indian team will lock horns against England in a hugely awaited five-match Test series from 4th August 2021 as well.

And, Virat Kohli will be the batting talisman who will carry the hopes of his team when India tours England. And now, former Indian cricketing great Kapil Dev has some advice to offer for the current Indian skipper.

Kapil Dev said that he expects Virat Kohli to excel in England. Adding that Kohli is a natural, Dev opined that the master batsman should not be too aggressive. Dev also added that Kohli should wait for his moments of dominance in England.

“I expect him to excel. Can you really shackle him? He is a natural when it comes to adapting but I would caution him to not be over-aggressive. He will have to measure it session by session. He’ll be better off waiting for his moments of dominance,” said Kapil Dev as quoted by The Hindustan Times.

Kapil Dev further said that Virat Kohli will score runs if he plays the waiting game. The 62-year-old concluded by stating that a batsman has to watch the movement of the ball and play swing and seam well to succeed in England.

“He will get his runs with a bit of patience. Trying too hard and too early doesn’t work in England where you need to watch the movement of the ball. If you play seam and swing well, show patience, you will succeed in England,” concluded Kapil Dev.

Kapil Dev represented India in 131 Test matches and scored 5248 runs at an average of 31.05. He also scalped a whopping 434 wickets in the longest format of the game. He played his last international match for India in the year 1994.
