Virat Kohli wishes friend and mentor Ravi Shastri on his 57th birthday
The duo is currently in England along with the team for the World Cup.
The camaraderie between the Indian captain Virat Kohli and the head coach Ravi Shastri is well known to everyone. After Anil Kumble‘s unceremonious exit from the helm in 2017, Shastri joined the coaching staff as the head coach and ever since the dynamic duo has delivered decent results. Ravi Shastri is celebrating his 57th birthday today and Kohli has wished him in the best possible manner calling him a friend and mentor.
Both of them along with the Indian squad are currently in England preparing for the World Cup which is set to commence on May 30. The fans are hoping for the Men in Blue to play the same way they’ve been playing in the last couple of years and win their third title after previously lifting it in 1983 and 2011.
Despite many of them mocking him for his role in the team, Ravi Shastri has done a brilliant job during his tenure as the head coach. He has always been in the ears of the players letting them know about their frailties and has built a culture and no wonder his contribution in making the team successful cannot be ignored at all.
Citing similar attributes of Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli wished him on his birthday. “A friend, mentor and above all a fantastic human being. Happy birthday Ravi Bhai. @RaviShastriOfc,” Kohli tweeted for his coach on the occasion of his birthday.
Not a great start for India
As far as India’s start to the tour is concerned, they didn’t fare well in their first warm-up game against New Zealand. Under overcast conditions, the batsmen failed to tackle the moving ball and were bundled out for 179 runs in the 40th over thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s half-century. The Kiwis chased down the total easily losing only four wickets then and the Men in Blue will need to get things right in the second warm-up game against Bangladesh.
