India captain Virat Kohli turned 31 on Tuesday (November 5). Born on November 5, 1988, the right-handed batsman is widely regarded as one of the modern-era greats as well as arguably the best batsman in the world right now. Kohli’s unprecedented consistency irrespective of conditions and venues have left the entire cricketing world mighty impressed.

No matter where he plays, Kohli has rarely failed to deliver. He has already proved himself in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England and other countries. Kohli burst onto the scene when he led India to glory in the U19 World Cup in 2008. And the selectors soon fast-tracked him into the senior side. Kohli made his debut in international cricket in the same year.

He did not set the stage on fire right from the start but slowly and steadily started impressing. And it did not take him long to announce it to the world that he is the next big thing in the game. He was a part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup. From that period onward, the 31-year old became the batting mainstay of the side.

 Virat Kohli’s note to self

As the world was wishing Virat Kohli on his 31st birthday, he himself took to Twitter to post a couple of pictures. It was a letter written by Kohli to a 15-year old Kohli. India started by wishing his younger self on the birthday before making it clear that he would not tell him about the future. He, however, assured his nervous and younger self that the journey will be super.

He also spoke about his father, telling his younger self not to feel bad for not getting the shoes as a gift. Kohli asks the 15-year old Kohli to cherish the hug given to him by dad. He also advised his younger version to keep reminding dad about his love for him. Kohli finished the emotional letter on a lighter note, advising the teenager Kohli to enjoy the parathas.

“My journey and life’s lessons explained to a 15-year old me. Well, I tried my best writing this down. Do give it a read. #NoteToSelf,” wrote Virat Kohli as he posted the tweet.
