Virender Sehwag backs the Indian veteran to stage a comeback in the national side
The flamboyant opener is hopeful for the southpaw finding his form back and claiming his stake for a spot in the Indian middle order.
Former India opener and the mentor of Kings XI Punjab, Virender Sehwag backs the veteran Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh to soon make a comeback to the national team. The flamboyant opener is hopeful for the southpaw finding his form back and claiming his stake for a spot in the Indian middle order. Sehwag, who has seen Yuvi’s progress from close quarters since his early days still reckons his abilities to smack the ball hard and long. In Sehwag’s view, the left-handed batsman is a unique talent and the team has failed to find someone of his stature to play the role of a finisher.
Yuvi is a match winner
Backing his former teammate in his skills to time the cricket ball, the former opener believes that if form permits, Yuvraj can again prove to be a real match winner for the team in limited overs format given his all-round skills that he brings to the table. “He’s not in the Indian team, but Yuvraj is still an amazing player. His talent is intact. Even a current India player can lose form. I don’t think we’ll get a player like him again. If his form his good, he’s a match-winner,” Sehwag was quoted saying by the Times of India.
A real fighter indeed
Yuvraj has been one of the few living inspirations on the sports field considering the atrocities in life he has faced and to play again for the country. Citing the example of his close friend Ashish Nehra, Viru is confident for the 36-year old to stage a comeback given he has already passed the YO-YO test, a basic criteria in terms of fitness as set by the team management.
“That’s up to the selectors. If he performs in domestic cricket, or passes (Yo-Yo), then why not? If Ashish Nehra can make a comeback at 36, why not Yuvi?” Viru’ fires back.
Earlier, Yuvi shared a message with his fans as the hope to play for the country is still alive and kicking, “I am still playing. I don’t know what format I am going to play. But I am pushing every day as hard as I used to, maybe harder than before because I am getting older. And I see myself playing cricket till 2019 and obviously take a call after that. So I still believe in myself. As I said I don’t know how many people believe in me but I do believe in myself,” Yuvraj had said.
