Virender Sehwag pays tribute to to RD Burman on his 78th birth anniversary
The former Indian opener is mostly remembered for his explosive batting and used to seek refuge in songs to keep him focused.
Music Director RD Burman or Pancham was a musical genius whose experiments and innovations made him one of the most beloved musicians of his time. While former India opener Virender Sehwag is a known music lover as he often displayed while batting, singing old melodies. He paid a tribute to the legend on his 78th birth anniversary by revealing one of his favourite RD Burman songs.
On Twitter, Sehwag paid ode to the legendary music icon by writing: “Remembering the legend #RDBurman ji on Pancham Jayanti. Remember singing ‘Aane waala Pal ‘ frequently while batting, @ashabhosle ji !”
Pancham da married singer Asha Bhosle in 1980. Together, they recorded many memorable tunes and staged many live performances. He composed music for 331 films, mainly Hindi and Bengali. His work with legendary singers Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle are still loved by Hindi music lovers. Even after his demise, the remix versions of his songs continue to rule Indian music scenes. Burman died in January 1994, at the age of 54.
Sehwag is known to have sung songs while batting at the crease as we saw a glimpse of it during the All Stars T20 series organised in the USA by Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne. Later, in an interview during the IPL, Sehwag said that he loves listening to music and keeps humming the songs that he listens to in the dressing room. He also revealed that singing songs helped him calm down at the crease. Interestingly, Sehwag sang devotional songs when he was out of form and turned to peppy Bollywood numbers when he was scoring runs.
