Clarifying on his earlier tweets, Virender Sehwag tweeted again saying that everyone has the right to express their views without being bullied or threatened. He also went on to say that his tweet was not an attempt to bully anyone – which he said in reference to his earlier tweet, which was misconstrued by people as Sehwag trolling 20-year old Gurmehar Kaur.

The former India opener tweeted saying, “She has a right to express her views and anyone who threatens her with violence or rape is the lowest form of life.” But it seems like the damage was already done, when Sehwag tweeted a picture of him with a board that read, “I didn’t score two triple centuries, my bat did”

His tweet appeared after Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Mandeep Kaur tweeted a picture of her holding a board which read, “Pakistan did not kill my dad, war did.” The 36-year-old may have attempted to tickle funny bones with his post, but it backfired on him as people from all quarters misconstrued his tweet as bullying a martyr’s daughter.

Sehwag also tweeted saying that his tweet did not attempt to bully anyone. “My tweet was an attempt to be facetious rather than one to bully anyone over their opinion. Agreement or disagreement wasn’t even a factor.”

The 20-year-old student of English Literature at Delhi’s Lady Sreeram College has been receiving rape and murder threats, which forced her to withdraw from her campaign against the ABVP.

Yesterday, even as students of DU and JNU came out in large numbers to protest last week’s violence on the campus of Ramjas college, Gurmehar said she he has had enough of the controversy surrounding her social media post.

“I have been through a lot and this is all that my 20-year-old self could take…I request to be left alone,” said Gurmehar in a Facebook post.

Well, we can give Virender Sehwag a benefit of doubt for this one.
