West Indies legendary batsman Sir Viv Richards felt that the recent home sending off of Darren Bravo from the Tri-Nation series in Zimbabwe was yet another indicator that the progress in West Indies cricket was lagging way behind. The former Caribbean legend stated that whenever there were positive strides made, they were always being threatened by controversy and this was something which needed to change if West Indies cricket has to move forward as reported by CMC.

“I think it’s about time that we just leave these things alone at this stage. I guess there are a lot of issues going on there,” Richards told the Observer newspaper on Thursday. “All that I can say on the whole matter is that rather than moving on, we just keep moving back every time. Every time there is some grounds gained, we move yards back after that.”

Bravo was sent home from the Tri-Nation Series in Zimbabwe after the Board terminated his tour contract following a controversial tweet. Responding to WICB President Dave Cameron’s severe criticism on his indifferent form which earned him only a Grade C contract, Bravo tweeted, “You have been failing 4 d last 4yrs. Y don’t u resign and FYI I’ve neva been given an A contract. Big idiot @davec51.”

The Board subsequently informed Darren that he was being withdrawn from the tour as his tour contract was terminated. Bravo was asked to remove his controversial tweet within a stipulated time which he failed to do.

Viv Richards who has never lost a Test series for West Indies under his captaincy felt Bravo’s sacking had something to do with his brother Dwayne who has had wrangles with WICB in the past.

“I just believe that maybe, young Darren Bravo himself could be in that persecuting sort of a lane because of maybe, other stuff that was done with his brother (Dwayne) so it’s a long story,” Richards signed off.
