Vivo IPL 2016: 6 high profile players released by the franchises

Six high-profile players released by their IPL franchises as the first trading window closed on Thursday. A total of 101 players were retained while 61 were let go by the six franchises. Yuvraj (INR 16 crores) and Mathews (INR 7.5 crores), who played for Delhi Daredevils, and Karthik (INR 10.5 crores), who was with Royal Challengers Bangalore, were the three most expensive buys at the IPL auction last year. The six franchises along with two new teams – Pune and Rajkot – will take part in the player auction, scheduled for February 6 in Bangalore. The second trading window will be open for the eight teams after the auction and will last till the beginning of the IPL. The ninth season the Vivo IPL would be played between April 9 and May 23. 1. Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh DD. (Photo Source: BCCI) The dashing left-hander who recently earned a recall into the Indian T20I squad for the three-match series in Australia failed to impress the Daredevils as they finished seventh in 2015. He scored 248 runs from 13 innings averaging below 20 and bowled only nine overs in the tourney. 2. Angelo Mathews: Angelo Mathews. (Photo Source: BCCI) Sri Lanka’s ODI and Test skipper Mathews also proved a failure managing only 144 runs in 11 matches. His bowling was also ordinary accounting for only 7 wickets at an economy rate of 8.20. He was the most expensive foreign import of last year’s IPL. 3. Dinesh Karthik: Dinesh Karthik.(Photo Source: BCCI) The wicket-keeper batsman managed to last just one season at RCB. He scored a paltry 141 runs at an average of 12.81 in 11 innings in the 8th edition of the marquee event. He was a huge hit with the Mumbai Indians however could not replicate his form for the Bangalore outfit. His inability to produce the big shots when needed the most hurt the team badly. 4. Kevin Pietersen: Kevin Pietersen. (Photo Source: BCCI) KP was bought at his base price of INR 2 crore but he reached an agreement with the Hyderabad-based franchise to allow him to head back to play county cricket in a bid to make an England comeback. He was to travel to India if SRH qualified for the playoffs however neither that happened nor did the star batsman make a dramatic England comeback owing to “trust” issues as sighted by ECB director Andrew Strauss. 5. Dale Steyn: Dale Steyn SRH. (Photo Source: BCCI) The great South African fast bowler played just 6 matches for SRH in 2015 and had a forgettable season. Steyn picked up just 3 wickets at an average of 56.66 and an economy rate of 8.94. New Zealand’s left-arm seamer Trent Boult was the preferred option for the orange army. 6. George Bailey: (Photo Source: Twitter) The skipper of the Kings XI Punjab team played 14 matches in the last season scoring 259 runs at an average of 23.54. He managed to score 2 fifties with a best of 61*. His leadership skills were instrumental in the Punjab outfit reaching the final of the 2014 edition however the team failed miserably in 2015 and eventually finished at the bottom of the points table.
