One name that has been doing circles around in the social media in the last few days is Hanuma Vihari. The 24-year-old has been around in the domestic circuit for quite some time now. He has amassed a lot of runs and is quite consistent. With 5142 runs in 63 first-class matches, Vihari’s average of 59.79 is the highest first-class average among the currently active players. As a result, he was picked for the Indian team for the last two Tests against England.
He was also the leading run-scorer of Ranji Trophy 2017/18 season. The batting-all rounder began his career with Hyderabad and later switched to Andhra. He plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and is the only part-time off-spinner to dismiss the mighty Chris Gayle for a golden duck in the tournament thus far. Speaking about him being picked about India, Hanuma Vihari has shared his insights about a host of other challenges and opportunities he has over the next year.
Hopes to make his opportunity count
Vihari stated that VVS Laxman has had a big influence in his career. He termed the former Hyderabadi batsman a legend. Furthermore, he added that he was fortunate to play a few games with VVS. Also, he credited India A coach Rahul Dravid for his valuable pieces of advice. The 24-year-old hit 148 against South Africa A in Alur earlier this month and seems to be in a good frame of mind.
“Coming from Hyderabad, VVS Laxman has been an inspiration. He is a legend. I was fortunate to play a few games with him and it was very helpful for me to get his advice and motivation,” Vihari contended. He also added that his stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL has helped him a lot.
“With SRH, he was our mentor and discussions centred around the dynamics of the T20 game. He always told me to trust my game, gave me a lot of freedom and be in a good space of mind,” he reminisced about the help he got from the stylish former Hyderabad and India batsman.
