Washington Sundar turns up for Tamil Nadu 9 hours after completion of the India-Bangladesh series

Washington Sundar made his debut for Team India at the age of 18 after he impressed for the Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. It’s his sheer dedication towards the sport that has helped him gain success at such a young age. The Young Turk was one of the star bowlers in the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka where he emerged as the most economical bowler.

Then he went off the radar for a year and a half, but has been a regular member of the T20I side after the 2019 edition of the World Cup. Lately, Sundar was a part of the national squad in the three-match series versus Bangladesh that India won 2-1. The series got over on Sunday, November 10 at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Thereafter, Washington again showed how much he loves the sport.

At midnight 12 am, he was with the Indian team and on the next morning turned up to play for Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The all-rounder played against Uttar Pradesh in Thiruvananthapuram. In that game, he could only manage five runs and didn’t pick up a wicket either in the two overs he bowled. Uttar Pradesh won the match by five wickets, chasing 169.

Sundar doing reasonably against Bangladesh

Sundar played all the three matches of the series versus the Tigers and had pretty reasonable outings. In the first match, he turned up with figures of 0/25, keeping the scoring rate in check. With the bat in hand, he scored 14 runs off a mere five balls and helped his side post a competitive score. In the second match at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot, he was economical, having conceded 25 runs.

This time around, he also picked up the prized scalp of Mohammad Naim, who turned out to be the leading run-scorer of the series. In the third match in Nagpur, Sundar was taken for 34 runs in conditions, which were trying for the bowlers. Overall, he gave away 84 runs in the series in 12 overs at an economy of 84, though he would’ve wished for a bit more in the wickets column.
