Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram revealed an interesting anecdote about retired all-rounder, Shahid Afridi. Akram said that when Afridi joined the Pakistan team, he was mainly been asked to bowl in the nets and later on, when he was given the opportunity to bat, he trashed Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis out of the ground.

“When Shahid Afridi joined the Pakistan team, for 3 or 4 days we gave him only bowling practice in the nets. Later on, I asked him, ‘can you bat? He said yes, why not, why not,” he said.

“I delivered my first ball and he sent the ball out of the ground. Then Waqar also faced the same treatment. In a short while, all the cricket balls were out of the ground,” he added.

Later in his career, Afridi went on to record the fastest ODI century in 37 deliveries. However, now that is the third fastest century in ODIs as Afridi held onto the record for over 17 years (6298 days to be precise).

Afridi who is known for his aggressive batting style holds the distinction of having hit the most number of sixes in the history of One-Day International (ODI) cricket.

However, he considers himself as a better bowler than batsman. The leg-spinner has taken 48 Test wickets and 395 wickets in one-day internationals. He has also bagged 97 wickets in the shortest format of the game in 98 matches at an impressive economy rate of 6.61.

The 36-year old also has scored over 10,000 international runs across three different formats – 8064 in ODIs, 1716 in Test matches and 1405 in T20Is.
