Wasim Akram survives gun attack in Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram’s car was fired upon in Karachi’s Karsaz area on Wednesday. According to initial reports, unidentified men fired at Akram’s car on Karsaz Road near National Stadium. However, he remained unhurt during the incident. Confirming the incident, Wasim said that he was on his way to the National Stadium to attend a bowling camp when a vehicle rammed into his car from behind. He said that some guards and the owner of the other vehicle came out and shot at Wasim, with the bullets barely missing him.
“The bullet hit my car’s tires but I remained safe”, said Wasim. He added that he was not facing any particular threats and had noted the registration number of the other vehicle and given it to the police. Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) East Munir Sheikh said that police was trying to retrieve CCTV footage of the incident to identify the attackers.
Akram has recently taken up a coaching assignment with Pakistan Cricket Board. He is training upcoming juniors in Karachi. These days he spends most of his time commentating on cricket from various venues around the world. He also works with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders as their bowling coach.
