Wasim Jaffer names his best T20 XI; picks Jasprit Bumrah instead of Virat Kohli
On Monday, Wasim Jaffer made a unique list of eleven players from eleven countries to build his best T20 XI.
The coronavirus threat has created a situation of crisis across the globe. Most of the countries are going through lockdowns. There is absolutely no certainty when the situation will get better. With that, all sorts of sporting events have been cancelled throughout the world.
During this time, former and current cricketers are interacting with their fans via social media. Due to this break, many experts of have the game have come up with their favourite XI of all sorts. Recently, former Australian spinner Shane Warne made his XI for every country, consisting of players he has played against. Former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer, too, has been making these top XIs for some time now. He had revealed his all-time India XI along with all-time Mumbai XI.
David Warner to lead Wasim Jaffer’s T20 XI
On Monday, Wasim Jaffer made a unique list of eleven players from eleven countries to build his best T20 XI. From Australia, he chose David Warner, whom he also made the captain of the side. Babar Azam from Pakistan and Kane Williamson from New Zealand were two players who to follow. He picked AB de Villiers from South Africa along with England’s Jos Butler as the wicketkeeper.
For the all-rounder’s role, Jaffer went for Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and West Indian Andre Russell. He picked two leg-spinners as well– Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane. For the last two spots, Jaffer picked up two quality fast bowlers– Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga and India’s Jasprit Bumrah.
It could be surprising for a few people to not see Virat Kohli in that side but the former Indian Test opener decided to choose Bumrah ahead of Kohli as his pick from the Indian side.
The tweet was uploaded from Jaffer’s official Twitter handle and read, “This is my ‘Best T20I XI’ by picking ONLY ONE player from a country: 1 @davidwarner31 (c) 2 @babarazam258 3 Kane 4 @ABdeVilliers17 5 @josbuttler (wk) 6 @Russell12A 7 @Sah75official 8 @rashidkhan_19 9 @IamSandeep25 10 Malinga 11 @Jaspritbumrah93”
Without a hint of doubt, the team picked by the former Mumbai batsman is quite good. Other than a few surprises such as the exclusion of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, rest was a pretty much a straight-forward choice. Having said that, the list made by Jaffer is extremely unique and well thought of.
