Wasim Jaffer, Nikhil Chopra pick their Indian pacers for T20 World Cup 2022
T20 World Cup 2022 is scheduled to start from mid-October.
After a disappointing display of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2021, the selectors must have their keen eyes on the performance of the players in the Indian Premier League 2022. This tournament will certainly prove to be a key force ahead of the decision to pick fast bowlers for the T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled later in the year. In the 2021 event, the three key pacers of the team were Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the fourth was Shardul Thakur. In the latest interaction, former Indian cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Nikhil Chopra picked their fast bowlers for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
According to Jaffer, Bumrah is definitely the first choice and he also has confidence in Harshal’s abilities. He then picked Deepak, if he is fit, for his exploits with the new ball. In case of Chahar being unfit, Shami was his priority due to the fine form he has displayed in the IPL 2022 season. SRH pacer T Natarajan was his backup option. He further went on to say that Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Prasidh Krishna could be the 6th bowler, and reckoned that Thakur may not find a place for his lack of wicket-taking abilities in T20 cricket.
Wasim Jaffer’s fast bowling picks: Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, T Natarajan
Umran Malik is a raw talent: Nikhil Chopra
Chopra thinks Bumrah and Shami will serve as the starters due to their experience and track record. He wants to see if Chahar can move the ball around, after getting recovered from the injury. He then hailed Harshal for his executions in the death overs.
Chopra further picked speedster Umran Malik due to his pace and felt that if he is in scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, the T20 Asia Cup will be an audition for him. He finds it interesting if Malik can manage the responsibility for the Indian team, and emerge as a raw talent who can prove to be successful in the fast pitches of Australia.
