Watch: Akshay Karnewar bowls right-arm and left-arm spin
There are numerous cricketers who can bat right-handed and bowl with the opposite arm or vice versa. however, bowling with both the hands is uncommon and a rare sight. But, Vidarbha’s Akshay Karnewar belongs to a unique category of bowlers who can bowl with both hands.
It was an amazing sight when the 23-year-old spinner bowled left-arm orthodox to right handed batsmen and right arm off-break to left-handers. It happened during the Vidarbha-Baroda Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game at the Wankhede Stadium, Karnewar stunned Baroda all-rounder’s Irfan Pathan and Hardik Pandya. More particularly, it was Pandya who was more surprised among both and admitted this fact after the match.
The over goes this way; Irfan Pathan slashed an off break directly towards deep point and took a single. A slight chance was created but the fielder couldn’t manage to grab it. Pandya rotated the strike on the next ball and Pathan also did the same with the next ball. The fourth ball again created a chance for a wicket when Pandya tried a lap sweep that nearly flew to the fine-leg fielder. The last two balls were again hit for singles by the duo to end the over.
The boy from Yavatmal is a bowling all-rounder and was first noticed as four years back when he caught the attention of media with his unconventional way of bowling orthodox spin bowling. Since then, he progressed well through the U19 level and is now part of the Vidarbha team
