Watch: Amitabh Bachchan sang national anthem before the Ind-Pak World T20 clash

Bollywood superstar and the most respected gentleman in the film fraternity, Amitabh Bachchan, sang the Indian national anthem at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata before the start of the Ind-Pak World T20 clash. India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a crucial Super 10, Group 2 encounter in the ongoing marquee event. Famous Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali, who has made a huge impression over the years with his melodies in Bollywood, sang the Pakistani national anthem prior to the match.

The crowd cheered massively upon listening to the mesmerizing voice of Amitabh and the moment was heart-wrenching for every Indian fan. The mega star is known for his deep, baritone voice. He has been a narrator, a playback singer, and presenter for numerous programmes. Renowned film director Satyajit Ray was so impressed with his voice that he decided to use Amitabh as the narrator in his 1977 film Shatranj Ke Khilari (The Chess Players).

Amitabh lent his voice as a narrator to the 2001 movie Lagaan which was a massive hit. In 2005, he lent his voice to the Oscar-winning French documentary March of the Penguins, directed by Luc Jacquet. He has also done voice-over work for many other successful movies like Parineeta (2005) and Jodhaa Akbar (2008). Apart from National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards and other competitive awards which Bachchan won for his performances throughout the years, he has been awarded several honours for his achievements in the Indian film industry.

India was in a tricky situation having lost the opening encounter against the Kiwis and needed to win this game in order to give themselves a hope of staying alive in the tournament. Virat Kohli once again proved his class in a run-chase and along with Yuvraj Singh he carried the team over the line in the important encounter. India has now beaten Pakistan on five occasions in World T20.
