Watch: Ben Stokes gives a silent send off to Virat Kohli

The on-field verbal rivalry between Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes has started to take off slowly. The ongoing Test series is getting the best out of the two outspoken and fiery characters of both the sides. The series itself is becoming a very closely contested one. As against the expected case, the visiting team has been doing really well in tough conditions.

England have done a great job in adapting to the conditions. A few on-field clashes were on the cards and expected to brew up in the series. The fans and media were not let down. The first of such clash perspired on the first day of the 3rd Test at Mohali.

The incident transpired during the English innings on day 1 of the Mohali Test. Ben Stokes was stumped by Parthiv Patel off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja. Indian skipper Virat Kohli apparently had a verbal exchange with the Englishman as he was walking back to the pavilion. Stokes had his words to say as well. The umpire Marais Erasmus intervened and spoke to the players and settled the issue.

Both players looked highly animated. Ben Stokes is known to carry his heart on his sleeves. During the recent tour of Bangladesh, he had a few on-field banters there as well. And the aggression of Virat Kohli is no new story either. However, it was the English all-rounder who had the last laugh. He managed to get a faint edge of Kohli’s bat in India’s first innings.

Kohli looked set on 62 when Ben Stokes dismissed him. Stokes decided not to celebrate and kept his hands on his mouth. This was a bit of dark humour that the Englishman used. Stokes was fined for his actions after his dismissal and he certainly did not want to get involved in it again.

Earlier, his teammate Jonny Bairstow had quoted that he had no idea about brew up between Kohli and him after the latter was dismissed. At the end of day 1, Bairstow had quoted, “It depends on what context was it said. I actually didn’t hear anything to be very honest with you with a lot of squealing people in the crowd and screaming. The exact words that were said, I wouldn’t be able to put my finger on. It’s something that’s probably going more out of the game.”
