Watch: Chris Jordan’s Controversial run-out decision in the England vs Bangladesh match: This was a go to the to stay alive or go home match for England in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Bangladesh had the upper edge over the inventors of the game heading into the contest and at half way stage the Bangladeshi dressing room would have believed they are 50 over’s away from guaranteeing themselves a quarter-finals berth.
They had given the English team a challenging 276 to chase; at one of the most crucial moments in the game when England was 238-7, Chris Jordan tucked a delivery from Taskin Ahmed towards the off side and went off for the run. But Chris Woakes at the non-striker’s end didn’t respond positively and Jordan tried to get back into the return crease. But a direct hit from Shakib-Al-Hasan caught a diving Jordan short of the crease or did it.
It looked a close one without replays and the on field umpire called in for the third umpire to decide. The replays suggested that Chris Jordan’s desperate dive had just saved him from the blues and even in case the third umpire was uncertain of the call; the benefit of the doubt had to go in the batsman’s favor.

Further replays seemed to show that the shoulder of the bat might have been touching the ground inside the crease, but the video was not conclusive enough and the commentators thought that the benefit of doubt should go to the batsman since there was no concrete evidence of the bat being in the air and another angle showed the shoulder in the crease with contact to the ground. But the third umpire SD Fry differed from the popular opinion and declared Jordan out and England were down to 238/8 with 38 runs more to get and 2 wickets in the hand.
Soon after they were cleaned up by Bangladesh 15 runs short of the target; England was all down for 260, handing the Asian team a quarter-final seat.
