Watch: Corinne Hall takes a spectacular divine catch in Women’s Big Bash: She only scored 13 runs with the bat and didn’t even bowl, but Corinne Hall was the game winner for the Hobart Hurricanes in the inaugural women’s Big Bash League match.

Hall’s remarkable efforts in the outfield inspired the Lady Canes to a massive 35-run win against the Melbourne Renegades at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium

Before the WBBL began, the 28-year-old all-rounder was tagged by the rest of the competitors as the one “to pull off an outrageous catch” and it took her just five overs to live up to the billing.

With the Lady Canes defending a tricky total of 121, Hobart needed an early wicket and Hall grabbed one out of nowhere when she did her best with a spectacular diving catch to remove Rachel Priest off a Julie Hunter delivery.

Five overs later, Hall showed that her throw was just as good when she removed Renegades skipper Sarah Elliot on 27 with a bulls eye, as they were cruising at 54/1 in the 11th over.

From 54/1, the Renegades lost 9 wickets for 32 runs in less than seven overs with the astonishing fielding exploits of the Lady Canes resulting in four of the nine wickets being run outs – Hall finished with two to her name and two catches – which were backed up by two stumpings by keeper Emily Smith.

Hall, who credited her incredible diving catch to playing touch rugby, said it could have been an even better day in the field for the Lady Canes if they had all their chances.

“It’s nice when they [catches] come off but all the girls worked very good as a unit,” Hall said.

“Collectively I think we were pretty good in the field.”

Earlier, the Lady Canes’ three internationals – captain Heather Knight (26 off 25), West Indian Hayley Matthews (25 off 29) and Kiwi Amy Satterthwaite (36 off 35) – all made quick starts but did not build on them as Hobart eventually finished its 20 overs at 121/5.

Part of this was down to the Renegades’ bowling tactics of using seven bowlers – five of whom were spinners – as they limited Hobart to only 10 boundaries from their 20 overs.
