Chris Gayle smashes a six out of the Holkar Stadium
With the boundaries being short, this was still 92 metres long.
In the clash against the Mumbai Indians, Chris Gayle again stepped up with a half century. This was the fourth time he crossed fifty in the five innings he has played this IPL. While he hit only a couple of sixes last night, one of those was sent outside the stadium by Gayle. The ‘Universe Boss’ has scored a total of 290 sixes in the history of the Indian Premier League. Even this year, he has 25 sixes which is the highest. MS Dhoni is next with 24 sixes this year. Both have been calling time back with their performances this season.
While it wasn’t quite a Gaylestorm at Holkar, Gayle whacked one out of the stadium. With the boundaries being short, this was still 92 metres long. In the last over of the powerplay, Gayle took Mitchell McClenaghan to the cleaners with a six over square leg.
Here’s the video of Gayle’s scintillating six which went out of Holkar:
Put to bat first by the Mumbai Indians, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul took Kings XI Punjab to another rollicking start. While Gayle got off to a slow start, he increased his scoring rate with three consecutive boundaries off Hardik Pandya. Both put up a 54 run partnership for the first wicket.
While KL Rahul got out, Gayle continued to bat. He went on to register a half-century before skying one to Suryakumar Yadav. After his dismissal, Punjab failed to gather themselves as Yuvraj Singh and Axar Patel were dismissed in quick succession. It was Karun Nair and Marcus Stoinis’ quickfire cameos in the end, which helped Kings XI Punjab post a total of 174/6.
However, it was Mumbai Indians who managed to attain a victory in what was a must-win situation for them. After Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, it was Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya who took the Mumbai Indians through to the finish line. They won by 6 wickets and managed to stay alive in the tournament.
