England might have lost the Test match in Mohali, but the heart shown by batsman Haseeb Hameed in England’s second innings is something extremely impressive, to say the least. What is more impressive is the simple fact that he was suffering from a broken finger.

While many love the heart shown by the young man, his family was mighty proud of what he had done. When interviewed by a prominent news channel, Hameed’s father, and brother gave their views on the impressive innings Hameed had played. Even Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper went ahead to shake Hameed’s hand following the latter’s impressive batting.

Father Ismail was a proud man. “He is turning my dreams into reality. I knew he will make us proud but now that it’s happening, no words are enough to explain what we are experiencing.”

Haseeb Hameed’s 30-year-old brother Numan told Hindustan Times: “It was our father’s dream to see one of us playing for England one day. I and my brother could not advance after the club level, but Hameed is making us and especially our father very proud.

“It is overwhelming to get congratulatory messages from everyone. We know he was in great pain, but still, he came to bat and batted with gumption. It is like Id for us today.”

“I wish Hameed a speedy recovery. He played exceptionally well. He showed great character while batting in difficult circumstances and in pain. The way he batted with the tail shows his understanding of the game and his strong will.

“I guess it is a natural process and the new guys are coming up well with better intelligence. He is a great prospect for England and a star in the making,” said Kohli.
