Pakistan’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal is in the news for his ‘art of leaving’ act in the ongoing T10 Cricket League. Playing for Maratha Arabians, Akmal left everyone in shock including the bowler Mohammad Amir, by not attempting to stop a ball during the semifinals against Kerala Kings. Pacer Amir bowled a beauty that swung back in to Paul Stirling, who went out of his way.

Amir had expected Akmal to catch the ball as it wasn’t too far away from the keeper, but Akmal left it as the ball raced away for a boundary. Kerala Kings successfully chased the target of 98 runs and booked a berth in the finals. Akmal had a forgettable night with the bat too, as he scored just nine runs.

Akmal’s good run in the domestic circuit

Akmal was included in the squad for the shortest version of the game after his phenomenal outing in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. Akmal recently scored 150 in a T20 game and became the only cricketer from Pakistan to achieve the feat. He recently spoke to a popular site and expressed his views on going forward. “I have been doing what a player needs to do — score runs — and that too in all formats of the game. I have been performing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and now am doing so in T20 cricket as well,” Kamran told The Express Tribune. “I am just concentrating on my game, which I’m supposed to do. The rest is up to the selectors and the board.”

He added that he wants to stay fit and perform to the best of his ability. “Every player who performs in domestic competition hopes to make it into the national team,” he said. “My job is to stay fit and perform to the best of my ability. If I am making records and performing consistently then that is all I can do from my end. Hopefully, the selectors will take notice. They are watching a lot of players and I hope my hard work can pay dividend.”
