Watch: Kumar Sangakkara does an AB de Villiers
When one thinks of Kumar Sangakkara, they will only think of class and perfect shots. On the other hand, AB de Villiers is regarded by most as perhaps one of the best shot innovators in the world at the moment. In spite of both these batsmen being poles apart in terms of technique as well as mentality, it is clear that they have made several attempts to copy each other in terms of batting technique.
In spite of the emotional farewell Sangakkara received in Colombo after playing against India, the 38-year old is still very much involved in the game. While he continues to be an active part of Sri Lankan cricket behind the scenes, Sangakkara continues to be a part of Surrey cricket club, the team that signed him to a two-year deal shortly after the former Lankan skipper’s retirement. Playing for Surrey now sees Sanga give himself the license to play the shots he barred himself from playing while he was affiliated with Sri Lankan cricket.
Playing in a county match for Surrey in the NatWest T20 blast, Sangakkara played a typical AB de Villiers shot, something the latter would most certainly be proud of. Ducking and rolling, Sanga seemingly played the safest shot in the world as he took a tumble and got four runs for the shot. Although Aaron Finch has been brought in as cover for Sangakkara, it is certainly clear that Surrey will be hoping to tie down the former Sri Lankan international to a much longer term contract.
