Watch: Manish Pandey takes a great catch to remove Maxwell
India’s Manish Pandey took a brilliant catch in the 4th ODI against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday. This was the last ball of the Aussie innings and the bowler was Ishant Sharma who was hammered to all parts of the ground by Glenn Maxwell. The right-hander had smashed 3 fours and 1 six in the over and tried to repeat the same of the final delivery, however, was out caught sensationally by the substitute Pandey who was alert at square leg.
Maxwell’s dismissal was as spectacular as his knock of 41 off 20. The length ball on middle stumped was pulled by the Australian but didn’t get hold of it properly and Pandey with his feet parallel to the ground flew for the take this incredible catch. The Indian is a very fine fielder and he showcased his athleticism with this grab. The home team finished the innings on 348/8 and set the visitors a mammoth target to chase.
The new member of the Indian team is no stranger to taking such catches. A catch he took in the dramatic Ranji Trophy final in 2010 became an instant hit on social media. This was his flying one-handed catch to dismiss Mumbai’s Abhishek Nayar, however, his team Karnataka ended the match in tears as they lost the match to Mumbai by just 6 runs, despite a brilliant century from Pandey in the fourth innings. It remains one of the most closely contested finals in the history of India’s premier domestic competition and the catch was one of the several high points of this great contest.
