Watch: Mitchell Starc’s lethal bouncers strike the batsman twice on the helmet: It seemed the Aussie fast bowler Mitchell Starc had decided to give the Afghanistan batsmen a taste of international cricket the hard way. Karim Sadiq was at the receiving end of some absolute thunderbolts from Starc.
The batsman is seen ducking off the first ball however the next one was as brutal as it gets and hit him on the helmet making him loose his balance. The Aussies seemed concerned since they have all been sensitive over this following the sad demise of Phil Hughes. They went ahead to have a word with Sadiq inquiring if he was alright. Although he got up and looked confident to continue his vigil, he must have surely known that the barrage of bouncers from Starc will hardly stop.
Another fast short ball followed to which Sadiq lost his grip on the bat trying to play a pull shot. The bat flew towards square leg where umpire Billy Bowden looked flummoxed. The great commentator Robin Jackman is heard having a bit of fun watching this incident and wonderfully describes the series of events.
The fourth ball of the over was another cracking bouncer from the left-arm fast bowler. It makes yet another mark on Sadiq’s helmet flying down to the fine-leg position. The Afghan was tested by these ferocious deliveries from Starc and at the end of that spell must have certainly been happy to have escaped unhurt.
